Description

Jindrich Halabala was born in 1903 in the Czech town of Koryčany. He stands as one of the most prominent Czech furniture designers of the 20th century, significantly influencing design trends between the two World Wars and in the post-war period. In the 1930s, Jindrich Halabala created the H269 chair while serving as the chief designer at the renowned manufacturing studio United Arts and Crafts Manufacture (known as UP). The H269 armchair stands as one of Jindřich Halabala's most iconic designs. Production commenced around the 1930s and continued in significant quantities until the 1950s. Crafted with bentwood arms, the wood is manipulated through soaking in water or steam bending under high pressure, allowing it to achieve elegant forms. The arms extend directly downwards to provide robust support while also showcasing graceful chair legs.
